Time and place of the blood donation day
The blood donation program this time will take place on January 29, 2024, at 7 am at the headquarters of Gangwhoo Cosmetic Hospital, located at: 576 – 578, Cong Hoa, Ward 13, Tan Binh – Ho Chi Minh City. With the participation of the team of doctors with many years of experience from both sides of Ho Chi Minh City Humanitarian Blood Donation Center and Gangwhoo Cosmetic Hospital.
Subjects and conditions for blood donation
Age
Blood donors must be between 18 and 60 years old.
Health and Weight
- Women must weigh at least 42 kg to donate whole blood, men at least 45 kg. To donate blood components by apheresis, both men and women must weigh at least 50 kg.
- Do not have chronic or acute diseases related to the nervous system, mental, respiratory, circulatory, digestive, urinary, endocrine, blood and blood-forming organs, systemic diseases, autoimmune diseases, severe allergies.
- Do not abuse drugs, alcohol;
- do not have severe disabilities;
- do not be pregnant or have blood/sexually transmitted diseases.
- Blood pressure and heart rate within the allowable range.
- Do not have signs of poor health such as weight loss, pale skin, pale mucous membranes, dizziness, fever, edema…

Blood donors must perform blood tests and meet the medical standards.

Delay Blood Donation
- Delay 12 months: After recovering from surgery, diseases such as malaria, syphilis, tuberculosis; after giving birth or terminating pregnancy.
- Delay 6 months: After tattooing, piercing on the body, contact with blood/body fluids at risk of infection.
- Delay 4 weeks: After recovering from diseases such as gastritis, pneumonia, measles, whooping cough.
- Delay 7 days: After recovering from cold, flu, headache or after receiving vaccines not specified above.
Occupation and Special Activities
People who work at high altitude, under depth, operate public transport vehicles, or athletes only donate blood after 12 hours of work or on a day off.
Blood volume and safety regulations when donating blood
Blood Donation Amount
For whole blood donation:
- People weighing from 42kg to less than 45kg: no more than 250ml/time.
- People weighing 45 kg or more: no more than 09 ml/kg and maximum 500ml/time..
Donate one or more blood components:
- People weighing from 50kg: no more than 500 ml/time.
- People weighing from 60 kg: no more than 650 ml/time.
Distance between blood donations
- Whole blood or red blood cell donation: Minimum 12 weeks between 2 times.
- Plasma or platelet donation: Minimum 02 weeks between 2 times.
- Neutrophil or stem cell donation: Maximum 3 times in 07 days.
- Alternating blood donation between whole and other components: Minimum time interval based on the type of blood component donated last.
Time to donate blood again after receiving vaccines
- Flu vaccine: 7 days
- Diseases caused by pneumococcal bacteria: 7 days
- Chickenpox vaccine: 4 weeks
- Diphtheria – Whooping cough – Tetanus (adults): 7 days
- Measles – Mumps – Rubella: 4 weeks
- Hepatitis vaccine: 7 days
- Cervical cancer vaccine HPV: 7 days
- Typhoid vaccine: 4 weeks
- Rabies vaccine: 12 months
- Japanese encephalitis vaccine: 7 days
- Covid – 19 vaccine: 7 days

Advice before and after blood donation
Below are some tips you should keep in mind before and after donating blood, to make the process go smoothly.
Things to do
- Eat lightly and drink plenty of water (300- 500ml) before donating blood
- Eat enough and drink plenty of water 24 hours after donating blood.
- Lie down and rest in place for 10 minutes after donating blood.
- Press the cotton ball to stop bleeding where the needle is inserted for 10 minutes, keep the personal tape for 4- 6 hours.
- Lie down with your head low, raise your legs if you feel dizzy, tired, nauseous.
- Apply cold cloth and ice to the injection site if swollen, bruised.
Things not to do
- Drink milk, alcohol, beer, before donating blood
- Drive far away, carry, work hard or exercise strenuously on the day of blood donation.
